SRES students participate in formal summative testing during the school year. Students are also assessed throughout the year via teacher-made or curriculum driven assessments. Assessment results are used by teachers/staff to make educational decisions for instruction in the best interests of our students. All formal testing is done in-person in the SRES computer labs.

Assessment information is outlined within the Salt River Schools Student Parent Handbook and the Arizona Department of Education Parents Rights Handbook

Although attendance is important for all instructional days, it is especially important to be present and on-time during weeks of testing. This ensures testing can occur without additional disruption to student schedules. If your child must arrive late or leave early from school, please inform the school by calling 480-362-2400 as soon as possible. If they must leave during a testing session, they won’t be allowed to complete that component of the assessment later.

Summative Testing
The Bureau of Indian Education created and mandated a system of standards, assessments, and accountability that was implemented during the 2019-2020 school year. SRES implemented the BIE Common Core standards that year and participated in the BIE assessments the following year. We will administer the following BIE assessments this spring:

  • BIE Science March 23-April 2
    5th grade only
  • BIE ELA and Math April 6-April 17
    3rd through 6th grade only

Summative testing windows are decided by the BIE, and each test has specific guidelines for administration and timing. All formal assessment results are shared with students, teacher/staff, parents, the Salt River Schools Education Board, and other stakeholders as mandated by the BIE and ADE. For summative testing, students/families receive individual reports created by the testing vendors, which are distributed by SRES in late summer or early fall.

If you have any questions related to student assessments, please contact SRES at 480-362-2400.
