This is the image for the news article titled World Read Aloud DayWorld Read Aloud Day was celebrated this year on Wednesday, February 5!

Students across Salt River Elementary School read The Bad Seed, by Jory John, which was gifted to all classrooms from the SRES Library and read aloud across the school!

From the publisher's website: "This is a book about a bad seed. A baaaaaaaaaad seed. How bad? Do you really want to know?

"He has a bad temper, bad manners, and a bad attitude. He’s been bad since he can remember! This seed cuts in line every time, stares at everybody and never listens. But what happens when one mischievous little seed changes his mind about himself, and decides that he wants to be—happy?

"With Jory John’s charming and endearing text and bold expressive illustrations by Pete Oswald, here is The Bad Seed: a funny yet touching tale that reminds us of the remarkably transformative power of will, acceptance, and just being you. Perfect for readers young and old, The Bad Seed proves that positive change is possible for each and every one of us."

Check out the short (and cute!) book trailer:

In Mrs. Meyers' kindergarten classroom, students read the book and completed fun activities about some good (and some not-so-good) behaviors the story brought to mind.

Jazzen drew a picture of himself playing hide and go seek with his brother next to another picture of him running up the slide, instead of sitting and going down the slide, which is something he said he will try to work on.
Jazzen, a kindergarten student at SRES, holds a picture he drew of himself playing a game (good behavior) and running up the playground slide (a behavior he's going to work on changing).

---
Tianna drew a picture of herself washing the dishes with her mom at home. She drew another picture next to it of herself saying "no" to her mom, which is a behavior she is going to work to change.
Tianna, a kindergartener at SRES, holds a picture of herself doing both good and not-so-good behaviors inspired by the book "The Bad Seed."
