Carole Lindstrom (Anishinabe/Métis) reads her book, "We Are Water Protectors," to Salt River Elementary School students for World Read Aloud Day 2022. She also takes time to answer several questions from SRES students.

Thanks to the generosity of the Salt River Schools NYCP Literacy for All program, every SRES student and teacher received a copy of Carole's book. (SRES students who didn't receive their copy can get theirs once we return to in-person learning; contact Mrs. Yurek for details.)

"We Are Water Protectors" is a New York Times bestseller and received the 2021 Caldecott Medal for the gorgeous illustrations by Tlingit/Haida artist Michaela Goade (she is the first Indigenous person to win the prestigious Randolph Caldecott Medal for best American picture book for children).

World Read Aloud Day is a global holiday celebrated annually in over 173 countries, and is all about bringing people together through the shared connection of reading aloud. For 2022, Scholastic invites you to attend World Read Aloud Day Book Fest, three days of fun and free virtual events!
